First time getting nail extensions: what should you know before your appointment?
Your first nail extension set does not have to be extremely long. A first set is a good time to match length, shape and everyday comfort before deciding whether you want more length later.
Worried that nail extensions have to be long, thick or impractical from day one?
They do not. A first set can be short and natural. You can always add length later once you know how extensions fit your daily routine.
How should you prepare natural nails?
Ideally arrive without freshly glued press-ons, glue or product remnants that were pulled off just before the appointment.
Do not cut nails extremely short immediately before the appointment. It helps to leave enough natural edge for the starting point to be assessed.
What length is sensible for a first set?
Choose a length that still lets you type, dress, work and train without immediately changing how you use your hands.
If you are unsure, start shorter. Length can always be increased at a later appointment.
Which shape suits your hands?
Almond, oval, square and soft square create different effects. Shape should fit the natural nail and selected length as well as the inspiration photo.
Bring inspiration if you like, but treat it as a direction rather than a guarantee that the exact same shape looks identical on every hand.
What happens during the appointment?
After preparation, extension and structure are built with gel or acrylic depending on the agreed result and nail needs.
Length and shape are refined and the finish is chosen. A new gel/acrylic set costs €65; with gel-polish finish it costs €70.
What should you know after the first set?
You may notice the new length more during the first few days. Do not use nails to pry open hard objects and do not force a nail if something catches it.
Plan maintenance before regrowth becomes excessive. ElviGlow offers a €55 refill up to four weeks; after that a new set is planned.

Do I need to know whether I want gel or acrylic?
No. Focus on the length, shape and look you want; the technique can then be discussed.
Can I choose very long nails immediately?
Many lengths are technically possible, but a practical first set can make adapting much easier.
What if I break a nail?
Contact the salon and send a photo if possible. Do not pull remaining product away from the natural nail.
Can I change shape later?
Yes. Shape and length can be adjusted at a future set or suitable maintenance appointment.
Your first set does not need to be extreme to look beautiful.
A comfortable length and shape that suits your hands often creates a better first experience than going as long as possible immediately.
